Let’s talk about when we all screwed up

The NFL Draft is days away and rather than beat the door over who the San Francisco 49ers should take or should have taken years past, let’s talk about when we were wrong. There’s always that one player you want the San Francisco 49ers to snag that they didn’t. And it turns out the 49ers made a good decision.

Use me as an example: was I smart 14 years ago? No, I wasn’t. Because I had statements like this:

I can say with confidence not much has changed with my intelligence and hot takes.

This of course refers to a young Jimmy Clausen, a quarterback out of Notre Dame. He got drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round and was there long enough to keep the seat warm for Cam Newton.

This is a bad guess. A terrible guess. People who wanted Ryan Leaf can make fun of me for this.

Honorable mention goes to how much I wanted N’Keal Harry in 2019. I thought that Deebo Samuel kid was great, but Harry would be phenomenal. Then the Patriots drafted him.

And Harry is on his third team. The practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile Deebo Samuel is one of the most important pieces of the San Francisco offense.

So I was curious: what draft prospect did you really want, but they turned out a bust? One of those, “Man, I’m glad the 49ers didn’t get him.” I know Mac Jones may enter the conversation here since a few years back that was the eternal debate.

Remember, this can’t be a player the 49ers drafted. If they joined in free agency that’s OK, but we’re talking about players you wanted that just didn’t seem to show up. People you beat the door down wanting on the team and were furious when the 49ers looked in a different direction and then years later were relieved they didn’t.
