The San Francisco 49ers’ pass rush was abysmal in 2025. Injuries ravaged the defensive line, unfortunately, which led to Clelin Ferrell and Bryce Huff tying with four sacks, leading the team in sacks, and the team finished with fewer sacks than Myles Garrett. It feels like a joke to type those words out, but it is correct. There is little doubt the pass rush will be far more productive in 2026, simply because it is almost impossible to be worse.
Nick Bosa is back. The team traded for Osa Odighizuwa. Mykel Williams is off an injury, and the 49ers are hoping for a leap in year two. Romello Height was drafted with thoughts of a situational pass rusher initially, while the team waits on his development.
The 49ers are still one pass rusher short.
The term may be outdated since Robert Saleh is gone, but what do the “turbo” or “NASCAR” packages look like under Raheem Morris?
As of now, it will consist of Bosa, Osa, Mykel, and Height. It is wise to bring in another proven, veteran pass rusher. The easy answer is Nick’s brother, but the word is that he might be done with football. So, which pass rusher could it be?
Available pass rushers include Haason Reddick, Von Miller, Leonard Floyd, Jadeveon Clowney, Bilal Nichols, and Derek Barnett.
Could a reunion with Yetur Gross-Matos be in the cards? Injuries derailed his time as a 49er, but his versatility as a pass rusher inside and outside could be beneficial. Perhaps Floyd is interested in a reunion with the 49ers and Morris?
The key to a 49ers Super Bowl run will be waves of pass rushers. Relying simply on what they have would be foolish, given the injury risk. Adding a veteran ahead of training camp will give fresh legs to the defensive line and badly needed experience.
Which available pass rusher should the 49ers pursue? Let us know in the comments.
