The 49ers selected Ahkello Witherspoon with their third-round pick in the NFL draft Friday.
Witherspoon led the nation with 13 pass breakups in 2016.
He ranked fifth among qualified CBs with just a 31.8 completion percentage against him.
Witherspoon was targeted 18 times in 2016 on either slant routes or in routes, he allowed just seven catches for 60 yards.
He has struggled as a tackler — his 4.0 tackle efficiency rating (the number of attempted tackles per every miss) ranked 483rd out of 520 qualified cornerbacks.
