Then there’s Brock Purdy’s passing yards

The San Francisco 49ers have two receivers with a chance of crossing the the 1,000 yardage mark this Sunday against the Washington Commanders. If either should do it, they won’t be the first receiver on the team to do it in 2023 either.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has already crossed the 1,000 yard threshold back in Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks. That alone is worth saying something. He currently sits at 1,203 yards on the season.

Two others have the chance to join him: tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Deebo Samuel who need 9 and 166 yards respectively.

With only 9 yards needed, one or two George Kittle passes should be enough to get him the 1k yards. Samuel, on the other hand, might need this game and the final game against the Los Angeles Rams to get there. Deebo has only had three games in 2023 above 100 receiving yards, none of which surpassed 150 yards.

That said, if there’s a game where Samuel could blow up and hit the 1K mark, it’s the Washington Commanders. The Commanders pass defense is ranked dead last at 32 in DVOA. To add insult to injury, the Commanders will be without cornerbacks, Kendall Fuller or Benjamin St-Juste.

It’s also worth noting that Brock Purdy is the first 49er since Jeff Garcia to hit 4,000 passing yards in a season (that long?) All of this happening in Week 16, so that extra game the NFL gave out isn’t a reason for the stats being ballooned.

Many might think this game could be a trap game. Especially with injuries piling back up again for the 49ers. They are favored by 13.5 points, across the country, in a 10:00 AM start time. Not to mention the 49ers may be all sorts of pissed off at how their Christmas game ended against the Baltimore Ravens.

Hopefully they can get the W and etch some more impressive offensive numbers in the process.
