Rookie linebacker Donavin Newsom, who suffered a frightening concussion in Tuesday’s practice, is “doing fine,” according to the 49ers and they expect him to be released from the hospital this afternoon.

Newsom collided with fellow rookie Chanceller James at the end of practice and his body immediately went rigid. An ambulance was called and Newsom was taken to Stanford Hospital where he spent the night for observation.

Another 49ers player, first-string cornerback Dontae Johnson, also suffered a concussion in the practice and will be held out of Wednesday’s session. He was replaced by Keith Reaser late in Tuesday’s practice.

Newsom, Johnson and Eli Harold all have suffered concussions over the first 10 practices of training camp.
