The 49ers added to their secondary in the second round of this year’s draft when they selected Florida State cornerback Renardo Green with the 64th overall pick. It was the earliest the 49ers have ever taken a CB during the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch era. The prior high was No. 66 in the 2017 draft when they took CB Ahkello Witherspoon.

Green will have a real opportunity to start right away in a shaky 49ers secondary. There’ll be some competition for a starting job, but Green will have the inside track as a second-round pick. Should he win that starting spot he could become a foundational piece of the 49ers’ defense.
