“Could those near-misses from Purdy also be semi-excused away? Perhaps. Snead, who has spent most of the year on the practice squad and has been targeted with three passes, appeared to be tardy turning around for the ball. And Purdy’s throw to Samuel, although a bit wayward, was catchable.
As Shanahan noted, neither pass was a result of Purdy being confused by Baltimore disguising various defensive sets, which would be an issue of concern for a young QB. Even Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey acknowledged Purdy was rarely fooled on his forgettable night.
“It’s hard to stop that guy,” Humphrey said. “He kind of makes all the right reads. Even though he made mistakes tonight, he usually doesn’t make too many mistakes.”
“Brown’s injury wasn’t immediately known after the 49ers’ Monday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
“There’s concern,” Shanahan said. “We’re not ruling him out this week, but there’s concern. That’s why he can’t go today.”
