Defensive tackle T.Y. McGill was also elevated to the active roster

The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of roster moves ahead of Monday night’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Arik Armstead is out, so there’s a need at defensive tackle. T.Y. McGill was elevated from the practice squad. McGill played 29 snaps in Arizona last week against the Cardinals. Those were the first snaps he received all season. Javon Hargrave is expected to play, which will take some pressure off Javon Kinlaw. But Kalia Davis is on the injured reserve, so McGill will still need to give the defense around 25-30 snaps.

There’s another player making his season debut for the 49ers. Cornerback Jason Verrett, a player you may be familiar with, was elevated from the team’s practice squad along with McGill.

The cornerbacks who have primarily played this season are Ambry Thomas, Deommodore Lenoir, and Charvarius Ward. Then, it’s been Isaiah Oliver in a reserve role at nickel with one of the younger players serving as special teams players.

Verrett could take the place of Darrell Luter Jr., who received his first defensive snaps of the season last week during garbage time. But that would also mean another player would have to step up on special teams if the Niners don’t want Verrett covering kicks.
