While nothing will top the Atlanta Falcons taking Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick shortly after paying Kirk Cousins in free agency, the San Francisco 49ers made headlines of their own late on Thursday night with their pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

As offensive players flew off the board, the 49ers followed, drafting Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick in the first round of the draft. Following the pick, the NFL community on Twitter went into a frenzy with different reactions.

Although the 49ers have a need at wide receiver with uncertainty and trade buzz surrounding both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, Pearsall was widely considered a day-two pick by many draft analysts. When selecting Pearsall, the 49ers left multiple highly rated prospects like Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean, Illinois defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton, Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and Texas wide receiver AD Mitchell.

Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Twitter on Thursday night about Pearsall, the 49ers and the No. 31 pick.
