There was a dip in the confidence polls after the 49ers winning streak was snapped
Monday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens on national TV elicited strong responses ranging from “the 49ers are exposed” to “the 49ers aren’t a Super Bowl front-runner.” Sure, the 49ers didn’t play their best game on Monday.
There needs to be more credit directed to the Ravens for their play. The good news is, while the potential NFC opponents present challenges on defense, none of them can do what Baltimore did on Monday based on personnel.
49ers fans have proven to be levelheaded following the tough loss, as only 37 percent of 49ers fans have changed their opinion on the team winning it all. Also, the votes were tallied before the news of Trent Williams escaping serious injury broke. The percentage would be lower for sure.
With two more victories, the Christmas Day loss will be a blip on the radar, and the team will finish with a 13-4 record, the number one seed in the NFC, a highly coveted bye week, and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Furthermore, the team won’t have to leave the West Coast with the Super Bowl located in Las Vegas.
The team will look to bounce back with a victory over the hapless Washington Commanders on Sunday. Chase Young and Trent Williams want to exact revenge on their former team and help push the 49ers closer to their regular season goal. This is a perfect spot for the offense and defense to get back on track before the playoffs begin.
The 49ers are still a championship-caliber team. No one loss can change that. When a team turns the ball over five times and commits 100 yards worth of penalties, it is incredibly difficult to beat any opponent, especially one as talented as the Baltimore Ravens.
Take care of business these next two weeks, get healthy, and the real season begins for the 49ers.
