ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday reported the 49ers and Texans have agreed to a trade that will send defensive tackle Maliek Collins to San Francisco. There was no immediate word on compensation for the deal and the trade can’t become official until the new league year begins at 1:00pm Pacific Time on Wednesday.

Collins, 28, was a third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 draft. He spent four seasons with them and one with Las Vegas before finding a home with the Texans the last three years.

Reliability has been a hallmark for the 6-2, 310-pound defensive tackle. He’s started 112 of the 119 games he’s played as a pro, and notched 206 tackles, 25.5 sacks and 46 tackles for loss. His 5.0 sacks last season tied a career-high he set as a rookie in 2016.

The deal likely ends any chance of Arik Armstead working out a deal to stay with San Francisco. Collins is the second defensive tackle the 49ers are set to add at the new league year. They’ve also agreed to a deal with former Browns DT Jordan Elliott. He and Collins figure to be key rotational pieces on the interior of the 49ers’ defensive line this season.
