The 49ers wrapped up their win over the Commanders and then had other business to attend to. They needed to cheer on their NFC West rivals against the Eagles since an Eagles loss would clinch the No. 1 seed for San Francisco.
A group of players stood around a phone outside the locker room and watched as Arizona took a 34-31 lead late on a James Conner TD.
Former 49ers team reporter Keiana Martin was in the building and had video of Taybor Pepper, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk reacting to the late score.
Arizona would hang on for the win when they intercepted Jalen Hurts’ Hail Mary at the end of the game.
The 49ers can rest in Week 18 now, and they won’t play until the divisional playoffs thanks to the first-round bye.
