Undrafted free agents played a key role in the 49ers’ 2018 season.  Now they have 10 new UDFAs signed to the 90-man roster according to a team release Friday.

Here’s the 10-player group of undrafted players who’ll try and land on the 49ers’ 53-man roster:

LB Azeez Al-Shaair
S Demetrius Flanniigan-Fowles
S Cameron Glenn
DL Jamell Garcia-Williams
DL Kevin Givens
WR Malik Henry
WR Shawn Poindexter
TE Tyree Manfield
G Ross Reynolds
QB Wilton Speight

Key UDFAs for the 49ers last year included Nick Mullens, their leading passer, Matt Breida, their leading rusher, and Kendrick Bourne, their top wide receiver.

It’s going to be more difficult for undrafted players to make the initial 53-man roster as the team builds through the draft. However, there are plenty of places where San Francisco can improve their depth. That’s likely where this year’s UDFA class comes in.

Undrafted players are typically long shots to make a roster, but head coach Kyle Shanahan showed last season that he’s not afraid to lean on them if he believes they can contribute. For that reason, it’s worth watching the 49ers’ UDFAs a little closer throughout the preseason.
