The NFL has demonstrated extreme levels of incompetence at times, but their most recent proposal takes the cake. NFL Network’s Jim Trotter reported NFL owners would vote next week on a resolution that would improve a team’s draft position if it hires a person of color as a head coach or general manager. Most proposals have problems. Reviewing pass interference is a perfect example. As far as this proposal, where do we start? Reading the replies on Friday, you saw a lot of responses from people who don’t think there’s a problem in the first place. My favorite replies were comparing the percentage of minorities and citing that as the reason there is such a disparity of head coaches and general managers of color in the NFL. Come on.

ESPN’s Bomani Jones said it well: “basically having to be bribed to seriously consider hiring minority coaches is a staggering indictment of the NFL.” The owners are showing us how out of touch they are with reality, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Honestly, I thought Trotter’s tweet was from a parody account when I first saw it.

In an attempt to level the playing field, the NFL plans to remove the longstanding anti-tampering barrier that permits clubs to block assistant coaches from interviewing for coordinator positions with other clubs. If the proposal is passed, here are the changes:
