The 49ers might be picking more than twice today…

The 49ers own the second-to-last pick in the second and third rounds, so they’ll have at least two picks. That number could be higher, as the team has three fourth-rounders. They could use those picks to move into the second or third round.

Let’s talk about the best players available and who may be there when the 49ers are on the clock. Here’s ESPN’s list:

  1. DT Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois
  2. CB Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama
  3. WR Adonai Mitchell, Texas
  4. WR Ladd McConkey, Georgia
  5. CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Missouri
  6. WR Keon Coleman, Florida State

  20. CB Max Melton, Rutgers

  39. TE Cade Stover, Ohio State
  40. WR Troy Franklin, Oregon
  41. OT Kingsley Suamataia, BYU
  42. Nickel Mike Sainristil, Michigan
  43. OT Matt Goncalves, Pittsburgh
  44. Edge Adisa Isaac, Penn State
  45. OG Cooper Beebe, Kansas State
  46. DL Brandon Dorlus, Oregon
  47. Edge Jonah Elliss, Utah
  48. WR Brenden Rice, USC
  49. CB Cam Hart, Notre Dame
  50. Edge Austin Booker, Kansas

The 49ers own the 63rd and 94th overall picks. Their first-round pick, Rick Pearsall, was viewed as the biggest reach based on mock drafts and big boards. So, for all we know, the Niners might be interested in a player some have closer to the 80s than the 40s.

Based on the best available players from above, Frazier, Powers-Johnson, Rosengarten, Hall Jr., Haynes, Beebe, and Suamataia would all be strong picks in the second round. I’m a big fan of Isaac and would take him in the second.

In the third round, if they’re still available, Hart, Booker, and Dorlus make sense. Which names, even if they aren’t listed, would you like the 49ers to come away with today?
